Illustrator and artist. Born in Gloucester. Son of Edward Williams Gere, a brass-founder from Massachusetts, who moved to England after selling his business. Educated at Windsor and received early artistic training at the Gloucester School of Arts and Crafts, followed by studies at the Birmingham School of Art. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and worked as a portrait and landscape painter and designer for stained glass and embroidery. Illustrated works for the Kelmscott Press, including the Morte d’Arthur, and collaborated with St John Hornby at the Ashendene Press. A member of the New English Art Club, the Royal Watercolour Society, and exhibited at the Royal Academy, where he was made an associate in 1934 and a Royal Academician in 1939.
