J. W. Hales.Born in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. Educated at the University of Glasgow, Christ’s College, Cambridge, and Lincoln’s Inn, where he was called to the bar in 1867. Served as Professor of English Literature at King’s College, London (1877-1893) and Clark Lecturer at Trinity College, Cambridge (1889-1893).
