Portrait painter and illustrator. Studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint
Petersburg. Moved to Paris in 1869. Travelled around Normandy, London, Brussels, Spain,
Italy, and the Netherlands. Co-founder of the Association of Russian Artists for the
Mutual Support and Benefaction Abroad. Exhibited in Paris at the Salon and the Universal
Exhibition, in Moscow at the All-Russian Exhibition Centre (1881-1882), and in Glasgow
at the International Exhibition (1888). Became Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in
