Poet. Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for Henderson’s poem, published on 26 September 1874, gives the name as H. L. Henderson and address as 59 St. John Street, Oxford (NLS Dep 341/368). This address was the same as Tolkein’s student accommodation, and houses on the street were built for undergraduates at St. John’s College, Oxford. Presumably Henderson was also a student of the college. (AC)
