Q.Contributed to Punch. Son of Samuel Jerrold, who was an actor and theatre manager. Performed in his father’s plays from a young age. Educated by an actor from his father’s company. Entered the navy in 1813 but returned after three years to help his family. Began writing plays for private theatres. Married Mary Anne Swann in 1824.
