Prominent playwright and poet. Born in London. Married Anne Lewis on 14 November 1594. Author of Every Man in his Humour (1594), in which Shakespeare had a lead role. Many of his plays were performed at court. Imprisoned for killing an actor in a duel (1598). Briefly converted to Catholicism (1598-1610). Author of the poetry volumes Epigrams (1616) and The Forest (1616). Became Britain’s Poet Laureate in 1616. Biographical information: ODNB. (CC)
