Poet, novelist, children's writer, and biographer. Never married. Born in Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland. Father was novelist Morgan Peter Kavanagh. Lived with her parents in London and then Paris. She returned to London in 1844 without her father, and she supported herself and her mother by writing, subsequently travelling often between England and France and authoring novels set in France. Correspondent of Charlotte Brontë. Publications include Nathalie (1850), Rachel Grey (1856), a series of collective biographies of women, and an 1876 book of fairy tales co-authored with her mother.
