Poet and novelist. Born in Dublin. Son of Thomas Philip Le Fanu and Emma Lucretia (née Dobbin). Educated at Trinity College, Dublin and studied law at King’s Inns. Worked as a journalist, serving as co-editor of the Dublin Evening Mail and later acquired the Dublin University Magazine, establishing himself as a prominent Irish journalistic figure. Married Susanna Bennett in 1843. Author of many fictional novels, but best known for one of his latest works, Uncle Silas (1864). Biographical information: ODNB. (BGL)
