Poet, translator, editor, and playwright. Alternative signature: H. S. Leigh. Born in London. Author of several volumes of poetry including Carols of Cockayne (1869), Gillott and Goosequill (1871), and Strains from the Strand (1882). Translated foreign operas, usually French comic ones, before writing his own, which were performed in London.
