Captain Marryat.Born in London. Began working aboard ships at the age of 14 in 1806. Travelled to Spain, the Mediterranean, the West Indies, the East Indies, and North America as a part of his career, and also lived in Belgium, Canada, and the United States. Married Catherine Shairp in January 1819. Became a fellow of the Royal Society in 1819. Appointed Captain in 1825. Awarded the Companion of the Order of Bath in 1826.
