Poet and minister in the United Presbyterian Church. Born in Thornliebank, Renfrewshire. Studied art at the University of Glasgow, then theology at the Hall of the United Secession Church. Minister at Dunse, Berwickshire, 1841-1879. Author of the unsigned Magdalene Nisbet, the Maiden of the Merse: A Tale of Persecution of Charles the Second’s Time (1857), and The Three Scholars, and Other Poems (1882).
