Educated at private schools in Staffordshire and trained in his father’s printing house. Transitioned to journalism and published in Birmingham Morning News and Daily Neearning, reporting events like coal mines incidents. His novels often feature Staffordshire settings in titles such as A Life’s Atonement (1879), Joseph’s Coat (1881), and By the Gate of the Sea (1883). He died in London in 1907.
