Transitioned to journalism and published in Birmingham Morning News and Daily Neearning, reporting events like coal mines incidents. His novels often feature Staffordshire settings in titles such as A Life’s Atonement (1879), Joseph’s Coat (1881), and By the Gate of the Sea (1883). He died in London in 1907.
