Poet and solicitor. Pseudonym: Bertram Romilly. Born in Romiley, Cheshire. Educated at the University of Cambridge. Became a solicitor in 1887 and practiced in Stockport and Wilmslow in Cheshire. According to the Browning Society Papers for 1885-1886, he was the local honorary secretary of the Stockport branch. Author identified from Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for Hic Jacet Amor, signed Bertram Romilly and published on 2 April 1887, which lists the author as W. B. Oldham, of Wheatfield House, Heaton Norris, Stockport (NLS Dep 341/369).
