Kate Carol.Born in Boston, Massachusetts. Née Locke. Married Samuel Stillman Osgood, a painter, in October 1835, after which they temporarily moved to England (1836-1839), then moved to Boston and then New York City where Osgood became closely connected to prominent literary circles. Separated from her husband from 1844 until 1847, when she began a close relationship (possibly an affair) with Edgar Allan Poe. Editor of the Ladies Companion. Published prolifically in periodicals, and her poetry volumes include A Wreath of Wild Flowers from New England (1838), Flower Gift (1840), The Rose: Sketches in Verse (1842), The Flower Alphabet in Gold and Colours (1845).
