S. Phillips.Travelled to Wolverhampton in 1885 to participate in a theatre company managed by F. R. Benson, his cousin. Married May Lidyard on 28 March 1892. His play Paolo and Francesca was staged in 1902, ran 134 performances, and was met with extremely positive feedback. Phillips also edited Poetry Review from January 1913 until his death.
