The Mower’s Song.

Move together, scythes and mowers,1
Foot and foot, and, hand and hand ;2
Move together, merry mowers,3
In a close and sturdy band.4
Drive the hare from grassy covert,5
Scare the lark from off his nest,6
Till rosy fire is burning eastward,7
Rosy echoes back the west.8
Move together, merry mowers,9
With your circling, glittering steel,10
Till the hot sun turn and weaken,11
Till the stanchest flag and reel.12
Mow together, merry mowers,13
Till the young moon, smiling out,14
Calls ye homeward, where the children15
Greet you with their welcome shout !16
