Job’s Comforters.
The torrent came swirling the drowning man,1
Rider and horse ; and the fish spoke thus,2
Cried the grayling and the salmon-trout :3
‘ Why don’t you swim like us ?’4
Down lightning-struck the aeronaut fell,5
Down through a mile of sky,6
Cried the eaglets and the eagle king :7
‘ Creature, why can’t you fly ?’8
The mole came where the dead men slept,9
The mole and his brother-scout,10
And said : ‘ You soldiers that were shot,11
Why don’t you burrow out ?’12
