The Selfish, Tyrannical Whig.

Tune— “ The Shamrock so green.

Know ye the man who is fawning and sly,1
With a smile on his lips, and leer in his eye,2
As cunning ’s a fox, and es stubborn ’sa pig,3
A beautifal snake with a venomous bite,4
Carressing with fondness, and rankling with spite5
A legal assassin, too dastard to fight6
A dissembling Reformer, who tramples on right7
Mark him well, he’s a selfish, tyrannical Whig !8
Know ye the man, who betrays with a smile,9
Like Judas, the traitor, ungrateful and vile,10
And for aught but his selfishness cares not a fig11
With a patriot’s tongue and a renegade’s mind,12
Oppressing the poor, and deceiving mankind13
To Chartists a tyrant, to freemen unkind14
Unfeeling as rock, and as empty as wind15
Mark him well, he’s a selfish, tyrannical Whig !16
Know ye the man who is crafty and base,17
Deceives his old friends, and the people betrays18
Wheels like a harlequin—cheats like a prig19
To Freedom a despot—to knowledge a knave20
Exalting the sycophant, trampling the brave21
Who scorns the poor workman, and makes him a slave22
A white painted urn on a rank, hollow grave23
Mark him well, he’s a selfish, tyrannical Whig !24
