Here Order, primal Demiurge supreme,5
Sways with firm will and uncontrolled command,6
Nor fears, to lame the action of his scheme,7
The lagging foot, or the rebellious hand.8
Come here who love mad liberty, the dance9
Of wanton wills divorced from sacred awe,10
Come from your fiery maelstrom in hot France,11
And learn how great, how strong a thing is Law.12
Ye would be free—poor fools ; be tigers, then,13
Or monkeys, and forget that ye are men !14
