Figure descriptions
A young woman and an old woman hold a baby and present it to a man. The man sits at
a table with his legs spread wide; he
holds one hand to his chest, holds his other hand in the air, and looks toward the
baby. The young woman smiles at the man and
points at the baby. The baby is dressed in a long, white gown. A dog stands at the
man’s feet and looks up at him. On the other side
of the room, a cat drinks from a saucer. A puppy approaches the saucer, but a second
cat holds its paw out to stop it. The room is
cluttered with various objects, including a caged bird, framed artwork, peacock feathers,
dishes, candlesticks, and jugs. Another
room is visible through an open door. Light streams in through a window and illuminates
