Figure descriptions
A crowd prepares to burn a man (John Huss) at the stake. An old man bends over and
picks up a bundle of sticks to help ignite
the fire. There are additional bundles piled in the background behind the prepared
stake. The old man looks up to gaze at the
prisoner, whose hands are bound behind his back. A hooded figure stands to the prisoner’s
left, carrying a stack of books. An
armoured knight stands to the prisoner’s right, carrying a spear. The knight looks
to his right and places one hand on the helm of
his sword, which he carries at his hip. A veiled woman and a small child watch the
scene while standing beside the knight. The child
clutches the woman’s side. There is a crowd of knights surrounding the stake, and
a tower in the background. Full-page illustration
contained within a dark, thick border.
