The Effect of Great Riches.

The only object that I see men have, is the1
Accumulation of enormous wealth.2
And when I see proud palaces, all deck’d3
In splendour, and adorn’d with gold—4
Gigantic granaries, running o’er with food—5
Our markets glutted with all kinds of wealth—6
When I see this, and know it all, for men7
Who speedily engross it to themselves ;8
When I see this—and see my children9
Wanting an humble meal—how can I say,10
I do not think the wealth accumulators11
Are not the cause of all the woes I feel.12
