Figure descriptions
A Grecian man, identified as Hylas, lies in a body of water (a stream). He is nude
except for a cloth that drapes over his
waist. Three water nymphs lie around him. They hold Hylas and embrace his limbs. The
water nymphs appear as women: they wear flowers
in their hair and they each wear a cloth that wraps over one of their shoulders. A
muscular man, identified as Hercules, stands in
the background. Trees and plants surround the body of water. Full-page illustration.
