Christmas Day on Sunday, 1870.

Rise in joyfulness and splendour,1
Twofold splendour, Christmas morn ;2
Somewhat of an Easter glory3
Shines upon thy happy dawn.4
Came a band of shining Angels,5
Where the Shepherds watched by night ;6
Where the women wept and waited,7
Came an Angel robed in light.8
Angel anthems now are ringing9
Round the Saviour’s cradle bed ;10
Angel voices still are
singing,11
“ Christ is risen from the dead.”12
We are waiting, cradled Saviour ;13
On us may Thy light be poured ;14
Lead our hearts from earth to heaven—15
Risen, Re-ascended Lord !16
