Domestic Peace.

Tell me on what holy ground1
May domestic peace be found ?2
Halcyon-daughter of the skies !3
Far on fearful wing she flies4
From the tyrant’s scepter’d state,5
From the rebel’s noisy hate.6
In a cottag’d vale she dwells,7
List’ning to the sabbath bells,8
While all around her steps are seen9
Spotless Honour’s meeker mien.10
Love, the sire of pleasing fears ;11
Sorrow smiling through her tears12
And, mindful of the past employ,13
Memory, bosom spring of joy !14
