A Conceit Pastoral.
“ Much virtue in If.”
— ‘ As You Like It,’ Act V. Sc. 4.

Were I the strong green grass,1
And your’s the Daisy’s crest2
Of gold, and snowy breast,—3
And it should come to pass4
That for the Grass you heard5
Me passionately sue6
For Daisy’s love from you,7
And listened—— In a word,8
If you loved me, and I loved you——9
Ah, sweet ! my blades should lie10
Against your dewy lips,11
Till your white petal tips12
Blushed crimson as the sky ;13
And, kissed from pink to red,14
Your lips should smile anew,15
As dawns of rosy hue16
To summer days are wed——17
If you loved me, and I loved you !18
