Poet, journalist, translator, and psychical researcher. Educated at the Royal Military Academies at Woolwich and Sandhurst, but left the army to become a journalist. Correspondent for the Morning Post in South Africa during the Boer War, Somaliland in 1902, and in India as a special correspondent for the Prince of Wales (1905-1906). Rejoined the army to fight in World War I. Author of Rust of Gold (1895), False Dawn (1897), and In the Web of War (1900). Married Frances Muriel Saunders in 1909.
