R. E. Prothero.Born in Clifton upon Teme, Worcestershire. Son of Canon George Prothero and Emma, née Kyrle. Educated at Balliol College, Oxford. Worked as a barrister and proctor at Oxford before his career in writing and editing. Also served as a Member of Parliament for the University of Oxford in 1914, and as the president of the board of agriculture from 1916–1919. Married Mary Beatrice Bailward in August 1891.
