Q.Born in Bodmin, Cornwall. Son of Thomas Quiller Couch and Mary Ford. Educated at Newton College, Devon, Clifton College, Bristol, and Trinity College, Oxford. Lived in London during his early career then relocated to Fowey during a bout of ill health. Intermittently worked as an editor and lecturer but primarily made income as a prolific novelist. Married Louisa Amelia Hicks on 22 August 1889. Knighted in 1910 for public service. Publications include dozens of novels interspersed with academic writings, notably the Oxford Book of English Verse, 1250–1900 (1900), first of the Oxford Books series.
