Poet. The Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for Reid’s poem To A Lady, On Hearing Her Disparaged, published on 22 June 1867, lists him as “J. Reid Esq, Christ’s Coll. Cambridge (NLS 341/310). Possibly the Scottish classical scholar and historian James Smith Reid (1846-1926), who was at Christ’s College from 1865 until elected a fellow in 1869 (see OED). This might not be the same J. Reid that published a poem in Chambers’s Journal in 1882. (AC)
