G. F. Richardson.Born in Lewes, Sussex. Initially worked for his father’s linen drapery firm. Appointed librarian and curator at the Sussex Scientific and Literary Institution (1836-1838), then moved with the collection to the British Museum and worked as a sub-collector. Began lecturing on geology. Fellow of the Geological Society. Publications include Poetic Hours (1825), Sketches in Prose and Verse (1835, 1838), Geology for Beginners (1842), and a translation of a biography of Theordor Körner. Edited Gideon Algernon Mantell’s Wonders of Geology (1838). Died 30 June/1 July 1848. Biographical information: ODNB. (AC)
