Poet, editor, and travel writer. Born in London. Lifelong friend of Letitia E. Landon (L. E. L.). Travelled to India with elder sister, Laura, after her mother’s death in 1828. Author of Oriental Scenes (1830). Edited and wrote for the Oriental Observer. Returned to London in 1832 and began to write extensively in fields including history, biography, fiction, and poetry. Returned to India on her own in 1839, where she contributed to local periodicals, and edited a weekly newspaper (Bombay United Service Gazette). Biographical information ODNB. (JH, SP)
