Poet soldier, draper, and historian. Father of Sarah Moir Robertson. Born in Dunfermline. Married Janet Balfour on 18 June, 1862. Member of the Dunfermline Rifle Volunteer Corps and eventually reached the rank of Quarter Master. Became a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland in 1879. Appointed Keeper of Dunfermline Abbey and Royal Palace in 1880. Took over the family drapery business in 1885. Author identified from the Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for the poem The Old Oak-Tree, published on 19 July 1879, which gives the poet as George Robertson, of Comely Park, Dunfermline (NLS Dep 341/371).
