Painter. Born in Siegen, Westphalia. Son of Jan Rubens and Marie Pypelynckx. Educated at the Latin school of Rombout Verdonck. Lived mostly in Antwerp, but spent significant time in Rome, Paris, Madrid, and London for exhibitions and diplomatic missions. Worked as a painter and diplomat. Married Isabella Brant (d. 1626) in 1609 and Hélène Fourment in 1630. Knighted by Charles I on 21 February 1630. Biographical information: Benezit. (BGL)
