Poet, organist, and composer. Educated briefly at Erlangen University before becoming the organist in Geislingen in 1764 and at the court at Ludwigsburg in 1769. Wrote the anti-Catholic newspaper Deutsche Chronik and was imprisoned from 1777–1787 for his liberal writings and comments about his patron’s mistress. Became the Master of Music to the Court in Stuttgart in 1787. Composed many operetta, cantatas, and songs. Biographical information: Oxford Reference. (CC)
