Poet and politician. Born in Dublin. Son of Thomas Sheridan and Frances Sheridan (née Chamberlaine). Educated at home. Lived in London. Worked as a secretary to the British envoy in Sweden, and was called to the bar of Lincoln’s Inn in 1780. Appointed as MP for Belturbet, Co. Cavan (1776-83) and afterwards Rathcormack, Co. Cork (1783-90). Married Letitia Christiana Bolton in 1783. Publications include mostly political pamphlets and works of historical non-fiction. Biographical information: DIB. (BGL)
