Poet and lyricist. Pseudonym: Alfred Egerton. Son of Scottish parents who emigrated to Texas in 1878 and owned a dairy farm. Educated at the University of Texas (1899-1904), where he wrote the university’s official song (The Eyes of Texas). Sinclair became a farmer and then moved to New York City in c. 1923 to work as a partner in a tax firm. Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for Noctis Dea, published on 20 May 1899, published with the pseudonym Alfred Egerton, lists the author as J. L. Sinclair, of Box 359, San Antonio, Texas, U. S. A.
