Painter, illustrator, and draughtsman. From a London Jewish family. Siblings, Abraham Solomon and Rebecca Solomon, were also artists. Close friends with Swinburne, and initially influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites. Author of prose poem A Vision of Love Revealed in Sleep (1871). Arrested in 1873 for committing buggery in a public lavatory, which led to a period of disgrace and poverty, although later his artistic career was partially recuperated by the bohemian circle around Oscar Wilde.
