Jesuit priest and poet. Educated at the Jesuit school Anchin College in Douai, France. Moved to Rome and attended Sant’ Andrea for training in the noviciate and then attended classes at the Jesuit college (1578-1586). Returned to England and established a secret printing press with the help of Anne Howard, the countess of Arundel and Surrey which he used to print and distribute prose work. Arrested in 1592 and was executed for treason. Canonized in 1970. Biographical information: ODNB. (KH, CC)
