Poet, prolific novelist, and philosopher (especially idealism). Pseudonym: May Sinclair. Born in Thorncote, Cheshire. Largely educated at home, except for one year at Cheltenham Ladies' College. Moved to London by the 1890s, and became friends with leading figures such as H. G. Wells, Hardy, W. B. Yeats, and Charlotte Mew. Founder member of London's Medico-Psychological Clinic (an early centre for psychoanalysis), suffragist, and also a member of the Society for Psychical Research.
