Poet, song writer, translator, and hostess. Lived in Duntrane, near Dundee. Known for her personations, where she “mystified” her friends (such as Francis Jeffrey, editor of the Edinburgh Review) by disguising herself as someone else to play a joke on them, which she wrote about in Mystifications (1859).
