Chartist poet. Born in Dublin, Ireland, to an aristocratic family. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Paris. Married Sophia May Muloch. Supporter of Universal Suffrage and encouraged members of his own class to take interest in the lives of the working class. Elected as the delegate from Edinburgh to the General Convention of the Industrious Classes in 1839. Contributed poetry to the Chartist newspapers The Northern Star and Leeds General Advertiser.
