Marie Constantin.Born in Gavrontsi, Russian Empire (Ukraine). Her father, Konstantin Pavlovich Bashkirtsev, and mother, Maria Stepanovna Babanina (1833-1920), were both Russian nobles. Because of her parents' divorce at the age of twelve, she spent most of her life travelling across Europe. Settled in Paris in 1877 and studied visual arts and painting at the Académie Julian and the Robert-Fleury studio. She is commonly known for her diary, first published in 1887 and translated into English in 1890. Biographical information:
