Poet, novelist, editor, and journalist. Taught mathematics at Queen Elizabeth College, Guernsey, from 1849-1856. Started the Channel Islands Magazine in 1853, but only published three issues before folding. Started writing for the Leamington Mercury in 1856, before moving to the Plymouth Mail in 1859, and eventually editing the Nottingham Guardian in 1861. Appointed joint editor of the London Globe in 1866, and regularly contributed to other journals, including Punch and the British Quarterly. Poetry volumes include Idyls and Rhymes (1855) and The Inn of Strange Meetings and Other Poems (1871). Biographical information: ODNB. (JS)
