E.C.Father was a London brazier who retired to a farm near Horsham, Sussex, c.1822. Mostly self-educated. Prolific periodical poet. Founded Eliza Cook’s Journal (1849-1854), which supported social reform, education, and employment opportunities for women and the working classes. Close friend of Charlotte Cushman, the American actress. Poetry volumes include Lays of a Wild Harp (1835), Melaia and other Poems (1838), New Echoes and Other Poems (1864).
