Illustrator (especially of children’s books), designer, dramatist, poet, novelist, children’s author. Born in Llanbeblig, Caernarfon, Wales, moving with her family to Richmond, Surrey, on her mother’s remarriage. Studied art at Herkomer Art School in Bushey. Married Rev. Percy Dearmer on 26 May 1892. Her son, Geoffrey Dearmer, was a First World War poet; her other son, Christopher Dearmer, died in action in 1915. Designed the binding of The Yellow Book in 1896. Illustrated many children’s books that she also authored. Pacifist, and worked as a hospital orderly in Serbia in 1915, where she died of typhoid. Biographical information: Houfe 281; ODNB. (AC)
