Poet, governess, suffragette, and typist. Sister of the poet Wilfrid Wilson Gibson (1878-1962). Educated at Gateshead High School. Member of the Women Writers Suffrage League. Married Thomas Cheyne in 1911 and moved to Oxford. Relocated to London in 1915. Volunteered by visiting wounded soldiers during World War I. Founder of The Order of the Spirit, a spiritualist organization. Studied theology at King’s College London. Admitted to Camberwell House Asylum in 1920 where she remained for the rest of her life. Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for Gibson’s The Passing of the Poet, published on 18 June 1898, lists the poet as Miss Elizabeth Gibson, of Battle Hill, Hexham (NLS Dep 341/371).
