Poet, essayist, children’s writer. Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, and lived with her family in Newburyport from 1808. Daughter of Benjamin Gould. Often wrote about her father’s military career in her poetry and maintained a close relationship with her father throughout her life. Began writing for periodicals in her mid-thirties. Gould never married. Author of Poems (1832, 1836, 1841), The Rising Monument (1840), The Mother’s Dream, and Other Poems (1853), Hymns and Other Poems for Children (1854), Poems for Little Ones (1863).
