Landscape painter, engraver, lithographer, and teacher. Born in Deptford, Kent. Studied watercolour painting under Samuel Prout. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and in the Louvre. Elected member of the Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1821. Married Ann Roberts on 29 June 1818. Travelled to France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. Author of several drawing instruction books as well as A Series of Subjects from the Works of R. P. Bonington (1829-1830) and Sketches at Home and Abroad (1836).
