Poet. Pseudonym: I. O. G. T. Born in Sandhurst, Australia, to Scottish parents. Moved to Scotland with his mother in 1869 because of her poor health. Attended Madras College, St. Andrews, then at aged 13 became apprenticed to a chemist. Moved to Edinburgh at age 19, and worked as a warehouse clerk while attending classes at the University of Edinburgh where he studied with John Stuart Blackie and David Masson. The Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for his poem Love in All, published on 11 September 1880, gives his address as 61 South St, St Andrews (NLS Dep 341/369). Biographical information: D. H.
